About this service
The Risen Lord Jesus Pours Out the Holy Spirit
The Lord took “some of the Spirit” that was on Moses “and put it on the seventy elders” of Israel (Num. 11:25), and they “prophesied in the camp” (Num. 11:26). In the same way, our risen Lord Jesus poured out His Holy Spirit at the Feast of Pentecost — the 50th day and the “Eighth Sunday” of Easter. When “a sound like a mighty rushing wind” and “tongues as of fire appeared” and rested on each of the 12 apostles, “they were all filled with the Holy Spirit” and proclaimed “the mighty works of God” (Acts 2:2–4, 11). The Lord Jesus grants this same Spirit to His Church on earth to proclaim Him glorified on the cross and risen victorious from the grave for us sinners. From His open heart, our crucified and risen Lord pours out His Holy Spirit in “rivers of living water” (John 7:38) and invites everyone who thirsts to come to Him and drink freely (John 7:37). Through this life-giving work of the Holy Spirit, we hear our pastors “telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God” (Acts 2:11), and “everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Acts 2:21).

Prayers of the Church
Prayers of the Church for May 24, 2026 — Responsive Form
Let us pray for the whole Church of God in Christ Jesus and for all people according to their needs.
You bid us come to the waters, O Lord. Grant that Your gift of Holy Baptism may bring forth fruit in what we say, think and do. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Almighty God, You delivered Your Word through Moses and the prophets and fulfilled Your Word in Christ. He was planted in death for our sins and raised for our justification, and in Him shall all the nations of the earth be united. Give us pastors who will preach this truth faithfully and church workers who are devoted to Your service. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Lord God, You have poured out the Holy Spirit upon us, that we might believe Your truth and raise our sons and daughters in it. Bless all parents, that they may faithfully catechize their children in Your Word. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Lord, we thank You for the many blessings You have bestowed upon this nation. Grant us a long memory to recall those who gave the full measure of devotion to our country’s peace and security. Bring to mind the sacrifices of those who served faithfully until death in the protection of our freedom and in the defense of our land. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
O Lord Almighty, draw near to those who face the distress of sickness, surgery and pain [especially _____________]. Let them not be afraid, and heal them according to the abundance of Your steadfast love. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Father in heaven, pour out Your Holy Spirit on all those who commune at Your altar this day. As Your Son feeds us with His body and blood, grant that we receive these sacred gifts in sincere repentance and firm faith and be raised up from death to life through His forgiveness. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Advocate and Defender whose light never wanes, we bless You, that on the great and magnificent day, You will raise all of the dead and give unto those who believe in Jesus eternal life. We remember with thanksgiving those who have gone before us and are at rest [especially _____________]. Comfort those who mourn, and bring us all with them into the light that knows no darkness. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Almighty Father, with Your Son, Jesus Christ, send Your Holy Spirit into our hearts through Your Word to rule and govern us according to Your will. Comfort us in every temptation and misfortune and defend us against every error, that we may continue steadfast in the faith, increase in love and good works, and — trusting firmly in Your grace — obtain eternal salvation; through the same Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
