How Majestic Is Your Name
To the choirmaster: according to The Gittith. A Psalm of David.
8:1 O LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory above the heavens.
2 Out of the mouth of babies and infants,
you have established strength because of your foes,
to still the enemy and the avenger.
3 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
4 what is man that you are mindful of him,
and the son of man that you care for him?
5 Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings
and crowned him with glory and honor.
6 You have given him dominion over the works of your hands;
you have put all things under his feet,
7 all sheep and oxen,
and also the beasts of the field,
8 the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea,
whatever passes along the paths of the seas.
9 O LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!(ESV)

Holy Trinity
Three-Year Lectionary · Series A
About this service
The Holy Triune God Recreates Us in the Image and Likeness of Christ Jesus
The holy Triune God “created the heavens and the earth,” and “behold, it was very good” (Gen. 1:1, 31). However, after Adam and Eve fell into sin and plunged God’s good creation into decay and death, the Son of God would be “delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God” to be “crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men” (Acts 2:23). As Jesus “received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:33), He also raises up all the baptized and pours out the Spirit upon them through the preaching of His Gospel. He sends out His apostles to “make disciples of all nations” by “baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,” and “teaching them to observe all that [He has] commanded” (Matt. 28:19–20). Through such baptizing and teaching — Gospel and Sacraments — the holy Triune God recreates us in the image and likeness of His incarnate Son, Jesus, the Christ, and behold, it is “very good” (Gen. 1:31).

Prayers of the Church
Prayers of the Church for May 31, 2026 — Responsive Form
Let us pray for the whole Church of God in Christ Jesus and for all people according to their needs.
Holy, holy, holy, Lord of Sabaoth, we bless Your name. You have called us out of darkness into Your marvelous light. Guard Your Church, purchased with the precious blood of Jesus Christ. Keep her in the true faith, without error, schism or compromise, until that day when You welcome her home as Your spotless bride. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Lord, as You have delivered us from the domain of darkness into the kingdom of Your Son, help us to walk in a manner worthy of Him. Bless the floor committees who prepare the work of our Synod convention, that all they decide may be guided by Your Word and undertaken in prayer, and that Your good and gracious will be done among us. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Creator God, You ordered this world according to Your good and gracious will, crowning Your creation with man and woman. Give us faith to cherish the holy estate of marriage, its union of husband and wife, Your call to be fruitful, and the promise that You will bless what You have made. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Almighty God, You are over all things. We pray for nations and governments, for leaders and civil servants, and for peace and justice here in our own land and throughout the world. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Loving Lord, You promise to be with Your people always, to the end of the age. Comfort those afflicted in body or mind, soul or spirit [especially _____________]. Give them grace to entrust themselves into Your Son’s loving hands and await relief according to Your good and gracious will. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Father, in the blessed Sacrament Your Son gives His body as the bread of heaven and His blood as the cup of salvation. Help us to receive this blessed Sacrament with faith and show forth the fruits of the Spirit in lives of faith, repentance and goodness. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Lord Most High, in six days You created all that has been made and commanded us to fill the earth and subdue it. Grant us wisdom, that we may govern Your creation as faithful stewards, using the earth’s resources in a manner that is pleasing to You. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Lord God, heavenly Father, You have called Your Church from every tribe and nation. Grant that Your people throughout the world would rejoice in the death and resurrection of Christ and live as those who have died and risen with Him in Holy Baptism; through the same Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
