About this service
Christ the Crucified Comes to Save Us by the Word of Faith
The Lord who “laid the foundation of the earth” (Job 38:4) is the Author and Giver of life who governs all things by His Word. His wisdom and power are beyond our understanding, except as He reveals Himself in the incarnate Word, Christ Jesus. He has “entered into the springs of the sea” and “walked in the recesses of the deep” (Job 38:16), and He draws near to us in mercy. We have been “a long way from the land, beaten by the waves” and tossed about by hostile winds (Matt. 14:24). In our mortality and sinful unbelief, we do not always recognize the Lord Jesus. But as we cry out in fear, He speaks tenderly to us, “Do not be afraid,” and He reaches out His hand to save us (Matt. 14:27, 31). “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Rom. 10:13), and now we call upon Him in faith, because we have heard “through the word of Christ” (Rom. 10:17). “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (Rom. 10:8).

Prayers of the Church
Prayers of the Church for August 9, 2026 — Responsive Form
Let us pray for the whole Church of God in Christ Jesus and for all people according to their needs.
O Lord, our God, we do not presume to know Your ways or inform Your judgment. Grant us Your Holy Spirit, that we may know Your Son by faith. Give us wisdom, that we may trust in Your Word amid the stormy seas of this mortal life and be safely delivered from all danger. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Heavenly Father, You send pastors so that we may hear of Your mercy for us. Continue to raise up men to serve. Bless our seminaries with faithful teachers and students, that the Good News may be proclaimed, heard and believed in every place. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Heavenly Father, bless all Christian homes with Your presence. Make them places of peace and refuge in Christ. Strengthen all married couples, that their union as husband and wife might be a reflection of Christ and His Church. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Gracious Lord, You stand over all creation. Speak peace to the nations, that war and violence may end. Raise up good and faithful leaders who will act justly and protect the weak, the vulnerable and the unborn from exploitation and oppression. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
God of compassion, teach us to make our requests known to You and to be anxious for nothing. Send Your healing hand upon the sick and the suffering [including _____________]. Guard them with Your peace in Christ Jesus. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Merciful Lord, grant that we who come to Your table may receive with faith all that is given to us in the communion of Your body and blood. Let us truly be united in confession even as we are one at the table of our Lord. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
O Lord, our God, be our light in darkness, our strength in weakness, our courage in fear and our peace in distress. Speak to us by the voice of Your Word, that we may call upon You in the day of trouble and confess Your saving name before all people. Hear us for the sake of Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
