3 And Moses came and told the people all the words of the LORD, and all the judgments: and all the people answered with one voice, and said, All the words which the LORD hath said will we do. 4 And Moses wrote all the words of the LORD, and rose up early in the morning, and builded an altar under the hill, and twelve pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Israel. 5 And he sent young men of the children of Israel, which offered burnt offerings, and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen unto the LORD. 6 And Moses took half of the blood, and put it in basons; and half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar. 7 And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the audience of the people: and they said, All that the LORD hath said will we do, and be obedient. 8 And Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which the LORD hath made with you concerning all these words.
9 Then went up Moses, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel: 10 And they saw the God of Israel: and there was under his feet as it were a paved work of a sapphire stone, and as it were the body of heaven in his clearness. 11 And upon the nobles of the children of Israel he laid not his hand: also they saw God, and did eat and drink.

12 What shall I render unto the LORD for all his benefits toward me?
13 I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the LORD.
14 I will pay my vows unto the LORD now in the presence of all his people.
15 Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.
16 O LORD, truly I am thy servant; I am thy servant, and the son of thine handmaid: thou hast loosed my bonds.
17 I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the LORD.
18 I will pay my vows unto the LORD now in the presence of all his people,
19 In the courts of the LORD’S house, in the midst of thee, O Jerusalem. Praise ye the LORD.

16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? 17 For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.

12 And the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the passover, his disciples said unto him, Where wilt thou that we go and prepare that thou mayest eat the passover? 13 And he sendeth forth two of his disciples, and saith unto them, Go ye into the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water: follow him. 14 And wheresoever he shall go in, say ye to the goodman of the house, The Master saith, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples? 15 And he will shew you a large upper room furnished and prepared: there make ready for us. 16 And his disciples went forth, and came into the city, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover. 17 And in the evening he cometh with the twelve. 18 And as they sat and did eat, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One of you which eateth with me shall betray me. 19 And they began to be sorrowful, and to say unto him one by one, Is it I? and another said, Is it I? 20 And he answered and said unto them, It is one of the twelve, that dippeth with me in the dish. 21 The Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had never been born.
22 And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body. 23 And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them: and they all drank of it. 24 And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many. 25 Verily I say unto you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God.
26 And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.

About this service
Let Us Love One Another, as Christ Has Loved Us and Loves Us to the End
“The Lord’s Passover” (Ex. 12:11) and “the blood of the covenant” at Mount Sinai (Ex. 24:8) are preeminent types of the Lord’s Supper. The blood of Christ, the Lamb of God, now covers us, and we keep His Supper “as a feast to the Lord” (Ex. 12:13–14). In Him, we see “the God of Israel” (Ex. 24:10), and yet He does not lay His hand on us to punish us. As disciples of Jesus, we recline at the table with Him to eat and drink in peace (Mark 14:18). The apostles, who received the New Testament in His blood “on the night when he was betrayed,” delivered the same to His Church, which we also now receive in remembrance of Him (1 Cor. 11:23–26; Mark 14:22–25). So He has “loved his own who were in the world,” and He loves us “to the end” (John 13:1). As He thus feeds us in love, let us love one another, just as He has loved us (John 13:34). For “we who are many are one body” because “we all partake of the one bread,” which is the body of Christ (1 Cor. 10:17).

Prayers of the Church
Prayers of the Church for March 28, 2024 — Responsive Form
Let us pray for the whole Church of God in Christ Jesus and for all people according to their needs.
Gracious Lord, by Your righteousness deliver our souls, which are precious in Your sight. Embolden our hearts to pray, confident that Christ prays with us. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Heavenly Father, as the institution of Your new testament is celebrated this day among all peoples, make Your saving power known throughout the earth. Grant that those who boast in the sacrificial gift of Christ share Him with the world He came to bless. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Almighty God, You have formed us after the pattern of Christ’s humble service. Help us in our vocations to follow His example of self-sacrifice. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Lord God of Israel, we rally to Your altar in the wilderness of this world. Hear our prayers for [_____________ and] all those who are sick. Refresh them in their suffering, comfort them with Your Word, and nourish them in body and soul. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Gracious Host, You welcomed the elders of Israel to eat and drink with You and did not lay Your hand on them. As You welcome us to Your altar to eat and drink our Lord’s Supper, do not lay Your hand on us, but count us worthy to receive forgiveness, life and salvation. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Gather us, heavenly King, around Your Son’s altar and throne with angels and saints. Bless our fellowship on earth, that at length we come to share this feast in eternal life. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Into Your hands, O Lord, we commend ourselves, our bodies and souls, and all things; redeem us, O Lord, faithful God; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Prayers of the Church for March 28, 2024 — Ektene Form
In peace, let us pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy.
For the deliverance of our souls, which are precious in God’s sight; and for confidence that Christ Himself prays with us, let us pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy.
In gratitude for the new testament in Christ’s blood, whose institution is celebrated this day among all peoples, that the world for which He died may know Him and His sacrifice, let us pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy.
For humility and selflessness according to the pattern of Christ, that in our vocations we would follow His example of self-sacrifice, let us pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy.
For [_____________ and] all who are sick, that God would refresh, comfort and nourish them in the midst of the wilderness of this world, let us pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy.
For all who commune, that our Lord would receive us at His Holy Supper as He did the elders of Israel, not laying His hand on us, but counting us worthy to receive forgiveness, life and salvation, let us pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy.
For the Holy Church, gathered with saints and angels around the altar and throne of Christ, that we who taste this fellowship on earth may be brought at length to share it forever in eternal life, let us pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy.
Into Your hands, O Lord, we commend ourselves, our bodies and souls, and all things; redeem us, O Lord, faithful God; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
