About this service
The Lord, Jesus Christ, Opens Our Eyes to God and Brings Us into His Presence
As He did for blind Bartimaeus, so does the Lord, Jesus Christ, have mercy upon you. With His Word of the Gospel, “he is calling you” to Himself, to “take heart,” to rise up and live by faith in His forgiveness. He opens your heart and mind to see and know God rightly in Him and to follow Him “on the way” of the cross and into life everlasting (Mark 10:49–52). “He is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him,” because He is the great High Priest, who offered Himself “once for all” as a sacrifice for sins. Since He is risen from the dead and “exalted above the heavens,” He “holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever,” and “he always lives to make intercession” for His people (Heb. 7:24–27). Along with that, He gathers the children of God to Himself by the proclamation of His Gospel, even “from the farthest parts of the earth.” In mercy He calls them, by the waters of Holy Baptism, “in a straight path in which they shall not stumble,” unto life everlasting (Jer. 31:8–9).

Prayers of the Church
Prayers of the Church for October 27, 2024 — Responsive Form
Let us pray for the whole Church of God in Christ Jesus and for all people according to their needs.
Hear our cries and be attentive to the voice of our pleas, O Lord, for the sake of Jesus Christ, the Son of David! Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Send laborers into Your harvest, Lord, and preachers to gather Your elect from the farthest parts of the earth. Sustain all pastors and missionaries faithful in their callings. Bless our schools and teachers, our congregations and their servants. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
You have appointed us as priests in Your kingdom — not to offer dead works out of our own weakness, but to offer prayers and living sacrifices made holy, innocent and unstained by the once-for-all service of Christ, our High Priest. Make every Christian household constant in prayer and good works, since our Savior always lives to make intercession for us. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Strike down the haughty, O Lord of hosts, and every hostile voice that would rebuke the voice of faith with its cries and prayers. Uphold the protection of our nation and its leaders in honest service for the good of the people, especially that the Gospel may be preached and heard without hindrance. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Save Your people and be a father to Your Israel, the Holy Christian Church. Give courage to the hearts of all who cry to You [especially _____________]. Give them steadfast faith and be pleased to grant them recovery, that they may follow You now and into everlasting life. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Give eyes of faith to all who commune this day, that believing Christ’s promises in His testament, they would discern the true body and blood distributed here in the Sacrament and so taste and see that He is good. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
O Lord, heavenly Father, we gratefully remember the sufferings and death of Your dear Son, Jesus Christ, for our salvation. Rejoicing in His victorious resurrection from the dead, we draw strength from His ascension before You, where He ever stands for us as our own High Priest. Gather us together from the ends of the earth to celebrate with all the faithful the marriage feast of the Lamb in His kingdom, which has no end. Graciously receive our prayers, deliver and preserve us, for to You alone we give all glory, honor and worship, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
